About this blog
My name is Rachel, and I am the writer behind all words you see here at this URL. I have no credentials to speak of for doing this kind of thing, but then again neither do most of the people who putz around on the internet writing about their life. I try to do an okay job though. You’re welcome.
I started this site a few months after leaving medical school as a way to find my voice in a time of grief and uncertainty about my future, and despite the Grim and Serious Tone of that sentence, I discovered that the subjects I write about are just about anything but grim and serious. For example, I often speak of my love for burritos. (For it is a true and earnest thing.)
“Yestertime” is a word my oldest son made up when he was 2. It’s a catchall to mean “any period of time occurring in the past.” Sadly, now that he is on the cusp of manhood at the age of 9 he doesn’t use it anymore. I let him call rakes “brakes” until he was in elementary school, which will probably come up later in his adult therapy.
I worked really hard to get into medical school, and deciding to leave was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But afterward I was able to look up and see the world in a different way, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
Because life is funny.
